BA Benny's got a future as a pack-ripping machine
The Bennynator: The BA Benny group break is announced. The break goes online January 30, 2011. Dollars are moved from Paypal accounts. Mike begins to open packs at a geometric rate. He becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, February 5. In a panic, they try to shut down his blog.
Sarah Connor: BA Benny fights back with even more packs
The Bennynator: Yes. He posts the results of hundreds of packs on Blogspot.
John Connor: Why attack Blogspot? Isn't that what hosts his blog?
The Terminator: Because Mike knows the Blogspot counter-attack will eliminate his enemies that also collect the Mets.
Ok, that's all of them, but here's another one I did:
Anyway, lots of slots available, a great price, a buttload of cards, and Mike's just about the best there is, so get in or go the way of "The Sarah Connor Chronicles".
DUM-DUM DUM DUM-DUM. DUM-DUM DUM DUM-DUM.
Razor group break #2 wrapup
Since I'm sure many of you are sick of hearing about these group breaks, which have dominated this space all month, I'll try to make this the last post about them for a while (though there may be a third case break eventually!).
Here's a quick wrapup of what everyone ended up with after drafting and trading:
BA Benny:
Beardy:
Darkship:
(plus a non-numbered Aaron Crow "R" from last break)
Derek:
Daily Dimwit:
Me:
(plus a non-numbered Justin Smoak and Yonder Alonso from Darkship)
As previously stated, I'll make sure everyone knows what I have available FS/FT when the time comes.
All cards were shipped this evening which means they go out tomorrow and should arrive around Wednesday. Thanks again to the guys who bought in and also those of you that watched for making this another successful break!

Razor Letterman group break LIVE @ 3pm EST today
Oh yeah, that's right, I forgot, we're breaking another case today. Relevant info for those participating/interested:
What we're breaking: 10 boxes (5 packs each) of 2008 Razor Letterman baseball. One autographed patch card for pack. Autographs come in variations of unnumbered (50 made), /20, /5 and 1/1. Letters include one of each of players' last names. 100 players in the set, including Buster Posey, Mike Stanton, Eric Hosmer, Pedro Alvarez, and even Pete Rose.
Since I only got four other participants, we'll open 8 of the boxes for the break and draft from those, and I'll open the other two for myself (cards from the latter two will be up for trade if I feel like it).
Each participant will draft five hits from that pool of boxes.
Participants:
(NOTE: I apologize for the copious ads. I'll try to get through the packs quicker so you only have to watch a couple as I believe they appear every 15 minutes or so. Since we're doing trading outside of Livestream it shouldn't be so bad this time)
Please come and watch even if you're not involved--this is a fun set to watch someone break, and you may see something you want to buy/trade for!
Draft and Trade-o-rama:
(I'll mention this several times, but your comments will not appear until I auto-approve you. Once we have this going, please leave a comment in the CoverItLive and as soon as I see it I'll auto-approve you and your posts will show up. Good? Good.)
We'll do all our trading here to minimize the impact of Livestream ads. We can all leave the Livestream open if you want in order to keep the card list handy, or I can distribute it in other ways, whatever everyone wants to do.
Shipping:
As long as everyone's good about communication, I'll be shipping these out on Monday with USPS Priority Mail and Delivery Confirmation. You're welcome to do any other trading with each other that you wish after the trade-o-rama, but once I've packaged up your cards on Sunday that's what you're getting, so make sure to contact me with any post-TOR trades by tomorrow morning, explaining exactly who should get what.

Participants:
- 3:00 pm EST: randomization of draft order (names go into random.org in order of payment, then my name last. I'll randomize three times, then as long as my name doesn't end up first, that'll be our draft order). This will be shown on the Livestream.
- 3:02: start ripping packs (Livestream, below)
- Immediately after that: card draft (still in LiveStream because I'll be displaying a list of all available cards). As before, this will be a snaking draft (1-5, then backwards, then forwards, etc.).
- Immediately after that: trade-o-rama (CoverItLive, also below)

More Blowout mail and group break reminder
Q: How many Jake Long cards do you need?
A: all of them. Or, to paraphrase Tom Brady, "What's your favorite Super Bowl ring?" "The next one." Yep, I scored a deal I was happy with for this,
a 2008 Leaf Limited Slide Show autograph of Jake Long. You can debate the merits of piling up hits of OL all you want, I just know that I like collecting the guy. This goes along nicely with my Manningham of the same set:
and that means I'll probably try to get all the big Wolverines from that set like I am with the others, like the Letterman patch autos.
On a related note, by my count this gives me the following Jake Long stats:
Group break reminder:
As if you needed one, but since I only have four people who showed interest (one of whom has paid so far) I thought I'd give one more shout out before tomorrow's 11:59 PM EST payment deadline. Details and stuff here. Don't miss out--this break is once again entirely autographed patches, like-a so:
This shot reminds me that of the 50 cards from the break, 34 were of the numbered variety (24 #d /20, 10 #d /5), which is pretty ridiculous, especially when you consider some of the UN-numbered cards we got (Posey, Matusz, Castro, et al). You WILL get your money's worth (and BA Benny WILL get his Ike Davis 1/1!).

Group break case is here, plus more hot Blowout action
| This is not the new case--I'm being e-green and recycling the same picture...again... |
So the group break case arrived today, putting us right on track for the Saturday, 3 pm EST break. Everybody still needs to pay, and we could definitely use some fresh blood (still plenty of slots open!), but either way, it will be a good time again. If anything, you should come to see if I come through on my promise to pull an Ike Davis 1/1 for BA Benny (who liked his stuff from the first break, by the way).
A bunch of other people posted breaks on the Blowout forums, and they generally did about as well as we did the first time--dud cases don't seem to be a concern with this product, and I've seen multiple people (besides us the first time) pull multiple Poseys. Plus, how about a Pete Rose this time?
Hot player-on-card action:
Some of you probably saw my review of 2010 Bowman Draft baseball blasters this weekend. Well, as I sometimes do, I posted a smaller version of that on the Blowout break message board, and interest came pouring in for the Machado and Valencia Purples, among others (sorry, Beardy!). I struck up a nice deal with a guy, trading those two, a couple other inserts from the break, and a Chase Utley bat card I didn't want for 70+ BDPP base cards I needed, plus a nice bonus. I won't bore you with scans of the base cards, but here's my favorite of this haul:
It's the Wolverines' own Ryan LaMarre, a Reds draft pick and target of my collecting this year--not to be confused with
The trade put me up to something like 84 of the base set and 83 of the Prospects (out of 110 each). I'll post wantlists soon, but in the meantime I'll just say that I'm happy to have nabbed about 3/4 of the base set mostly by trading, plus I got this guy:
a.k.a. the offer I couldn't refuse. I'm also making it a goal to work on my Porcello collection this year in the event that he blows up (not literally, that would just be crazy).
The moral of this trade is that sometimes it pays to post box breaks on Blowout's forum because it can lead to mutually beneficial deals. Oh, one other moral--Beardy has dibs on all of my future Orioles cards, so don't even bother asking for that Brady Anderson III blugenta (a popular color in the future) printing plate autograph White Whale Mirror Blue I'm gonna pull in 2025, and don't act like I didn't give you fair warning.

Lots of stuff going on
First up, a group break reminder:
I haven't been as obnoxious about reminders this time, but just so y'all know, info's up top. Still plenty of time to get in, otherwise the few of us busting this case will again laugh at you as we pull Posey after Posey. Be a good capitalist and join today! Buy-in deadline is Friday at 11:59 pm EST.
87 Squirrel Moustaches and Chrome Murphy Patches?:
That would make for an awesome Photoshop contest, by the way. Anyway, Eric of Manupatches and Chrome Scratches sent me a nice little trade package just cuz after participating in my first two (and maybe third? :HINTHINT:) group breaks. I got a nice pile of Tigers and Wolverines, including some highlights seen here:
A couple nice Verlanders, including a RC, a couple Grandersons (meta-wooooo!), a Gibby I definitely didn't have, a couple cool Topps 206s including Kaline, and one of a few Jim Harbaughs (go 49ers?). A great trade package (that I essentially got for nothing) from a great trader and blogger. Thanks, Eric!
More Blowout stuff? Are you kidding me?
If you think this is crazy, wait'll you see what I've got coming in a few days.... In the meantime, I got some nice new stuff courtesy buying and trading.
First up, more Mike Harts:
I got these three (and a fourth, which was a double and has since been dispensed with) for dirt cheap. I really like the design of the Stadium Clubs, but the R&S patch auto was the real get here, and realistically was worth what I paid alone. And my Hart collection swells even further.
Onto baseball news, I grabbed a couple new Rich Hill autographs in a trade for a couple of my unwanted Razor letters from the last break. They would be these guys:
2006 Topps autograph: A smiling Hill is flanked by a looping, swooping signature. I love it.
2009 A&G autograph: I are serious Oriole. This is Serious Card. Probably beaten down after years of playing with the Cubs, among other teams, then not having much personal success, Rich makes do with the infinitesimal space on the card.
A good deal that I was happy with.
Look for more Blowout blowout-type stuff in the next week or so, time allowing, of course, thanks to Saturday afternoon's group break (there's a group break going on? When?).

Sunday fun: autograph and memorabilia collection
Today I'm going to take a break from cards to show off my personal autograph and memorabilia collection. Though I might have missed something here and there, this is a look at my collection of in-person autographs and game-used memorabilia that I've piled up through the years.
Bob Feller autographed OMLB ball: I mentioned in my previous Feller post that I got to meet the guy a few times (as you'll be reminded of shortly) and one item I got signed was this sharp official MLB ball. Does this guy have a great autograph or what?
Bob Feller autographed Indians hat: I think this got signed at the local mall show I blogged about in the above link. This was just a random non-fitted Indians hat I had at the time, and his signature came out nicely on it.
Bob Feller autographed picture: This is a picture the mall was selling during the signing, and again, what a great signature!
Kirk Gibson autographed helmet: My brother got this for me for my birthday or Christmas a while ago. This isn't an official MLB helmet, just the plastic kind you'd get on a helmet giveaway day, but it looks great. Gibson was definitely one of my favorite Tigers despite being a Michigan State alum.
Bob Feller autographed HOF program page: Back to Feller for a second. He signed this at a big card show (the first time I got to meet him, I believe) and was able to pinpoint the day that picture was taken. What a guy. (Sorry the picture's sideways--I tried uploading it four times despite the original being vertical, but Blogger hates me today).
Autographed official International League baseball: I caught this foul ball at a Toledo Mud Hens game years and years ago (the summer between 7th and 8th grade for me) after it bounced off the overhang, dropped, and bonked a drunk guy near me in the head. I got it autographed by some random Tigers farmhand, plus Butch Huskey, who was on a rehab assignment with whatever team at the time. This is the only game-used ball I've ever caught at a baseball game of any kind, but I hope to get more eventually.
Fergie Jenkins autographed HOF program: This is the same program that includes the Feller autograph above. This is one of many I got at a series of large card shows at Gibraltar Trade Center, either in Taylor or Mt. Clemens, MI. Fergie was cool and has a nice autograph, plus he's not a talentless hag that screeches in a crappy band.
Sandy Koufax/Tommy Lasorda/Walter Alston autographed baseball: These two pictures show off one of the cornerstones of my collection. My uncle had a friend who was a spring training catcher for the Dodgers way, way back, and he got this ball signed, which eventually found its way to me. I don't remember how old I was before I figured out it was actually autographed, and by three Dodgers legends, no less. It's yellowed from being old and left out (I don't think my mom was aware of its value either) but still great. The first picture shows Koufax (middle) and Lasorda (top) while the second includes Alston's sig on the back. A very cool ball to have considering Alston died a long time ago, Lasorda's getting up there and Koufax is fairly reclusive.
Warren Spahn/Willie Stargell/Fergie Jenkins/Gaylord Perry autographed OMLB ball: These four pics show off an official NL MLB ball that I had signed by those four HOFers on several different occasions. It's definitely a cool quartet of NL greats to have on one ball, and I may add to it eventually.
Cal Ripken Jr. unused ticket from his 3000th hit game: Not very many people attended the Twins game where Cal nabbed his 3000th hit, so they shrewdly advertised unused tickets from the game for sale (including the COA you see there) for not much more than the face value of the ticket itself. I jumped at the chance and still proudly hang it with my other memorabilia.
Scott Rolen 1999 Skybox Dugout Axcess autographed ball: I traded for a redemption for this card way back, and months later I had this gem. Keep in mind at the time that Rolen was a pretty big star/prospect. It's still a cool piece in my collection.
Willie Stargell autographed picture: (This suffered the same fate as the Feller program pic, sorry) Another item I had autographed at the show Stargell attended, a great action shot of Pops and a great autograph.
Detroit Tigers autographed baseball: This is a baseball from one of the Tigers' giveaway days and includes a bunch of different sigs. The ones I can remember and/or identify: Al Kaline, Mickey Lolich, A.J. Sager, Paws, Don Wert, Willie Horton.
University of Michigan hockey game-used puck: I caught this puck at a game (against who I can't remember) from my student season ticket seats in what I believe was my senior year. I was just a couple rows from the glass, the puck gently flipped over the glass and I managed to pounce on it before anyone else could. I'll likely try to get this signed at some point.
Jake Long/Chad Henne/Mike Hart autographed football: One of my favorites, I grabbed this ball on eBay for a nice price a couple years ago (before all three were drafted, I believe, or right around then). It came with a COA, and while the price might indicate some shenanigans, I choose to believe I've got a ball with the signatures of three of my favorite all-time Wolverines.
Not pictured: Detroit Tigers bat day giveaway bat signed by Gabe Kapler and Matt Anderson, which I'll get added eventually.
So that's it for now. Next up I may scan the successes from my though-the-mail attempts years ago, which should also be a fun project/post. And now a question for you readers: what's your favorite non-card collection item?
Bob Feller autographed OMLB ball: I mentioned in my previous Feller post that I got to meet the guy a few times (as you'll be reminded of shortly) and one item I got signed was this sharp official MLB ball. Does this guy have a great autograph or what?
