2015 trade package #13: Saturday Night SCFtDS Fever

Canadian blogging superstar and all-around great guy Doug from Sports Cards From the Dollar Store sent me yet another in a long line of fantastic trade packages this month.  It may be after 10 (EST) on a Saturday night--a weird time for blogging, at least for me, but I don't foresee having much time in the next couple days what with Memorial Day festivities and the like.  So instead of taking the whole weekend off I'm showing off the contents of this package here and over on TMM with the added benefit that it'll get plenty of run at the top of the blog since I won't be replacing it for a few days!

The TMV portion of the package was smaller, as is tradition,
but there was still some useful stuff in it:
My first Tigers card of Yo-Yo Cespedes from this year's Donruss set (which makes me pine for the Donruss products of yore); a Bowman Chrome also from this year of Tigers #8 prospect (according to BA) Austin Kubitza--Detroit's 2013 fourth-rounder; and an '06-'07 base card of Wings defenseman legend Nick Lidstrom.

Oh yeah, and this bad boy:
Justin Verlander 2015 Topps Heritage Clubhouse Collection Relics jersey
My first 2015 Verlander card is a nice relic from 2015 Heritage thanks to Doug!  It's my 9th JV relic and 16th hit overall.  I hope this is a sign that Justin will be back from injury and giving the team a boost very soon!

Please don't forget to check out the highlight reel cards Doug sent my way over on TMM as well this evening.

Doug, thanks as always for keeping things interesting and fun!  I'll have a pretty solid response heading your way in the next couple weeks including a couple cards I know you'll enjoy very much (as is tradition, as is tradition).

BA Benny's Back 2012 Trade Post Spectacularrrrrrrrrrrr

Better if you read the title in Ned's voice
So as everyone knows, Mike over at BA Benny's Procrastination and Falling Off the Earth Buffet is back and better than ever.  A couple Saturdays ago I posted the first of two parts of my Wolverines haul from our latest humongous ginormotrade over on TMM.  Speaking of procrastination, I still haven't gotten around to scanning and posting the rest of that (dealing with a new scanner, plus, you know, life) but after all the bullshit of yesterday, I wanted to post something positive today.

As usual, Mike and I sent each other a ridiculous number of awesome cards that totally fit in to our PCs.  I've traded with him a bunch and I'm STILL floored by the great stuff he comes up with, which you'll see below.  In fact, there's so much awesome stuff here that I'll save my comments, which will be brief, until the end so you can all enjoy this stuff in peace:

Tigers base stuff:

Tigers hits:
Andrew Miller 2007 Topps Turkey Red jersey
Jeff Weaver 2002 Topps T206 jersey
Joel Zumaya 2007 Sweet Spot Sweet Swatch jersey
Justin Verlander-Victor Martinez 2009 Upper Deck Ballpark Collection Dual Swatch Memorabilia Stars dual jersey (#070/400)
Magglio Ordonez 2005 Topps Heritage Pieces of Greatness bat
Magglio Ordonez 2008 SPx Winning Materials Die-Cut jersey (#090/150)
Magglio Ordonez 2008 Upper Deck Baseball Heroes Light Blue jersey (#090/200)
Magglio Ordonez 2008 Upper Deck Game Jersey jersey
Ryan Perry 2008 Playoff Contenders auto
Virgil Trucks 2008 Diamond Signatures auto

Lions hits:
German Crowell 2001 eX Constant Threads pants
Jahvid Best 2010 Bowman Sterling Refractor jersey (#137/299)
Kevin Smith 2008 Bowman Sterling Large Swatch jersey (#237/309)
Ndamukong Suh 2011 Prestige Rookie Review jersey
Titus Young 2011 Prestige RC (#081/999)

So, yeah, uh, a few comments:
  • THAT'S A LOTTA MAGGLIOS!  I'm super excited to be adding FOUR new Ordonez cards to the Tigers PC.
  • How cool is that Verlander/V-Mart card now that they're on the same team?
  • Those are my first hits of the not-quite-as-punkass Weaver and Andrew Miller.  I already had a Zumaya, but this one's cooler for sure.
  • VIRGIL TRUCKS OUT OF F'IN NOWHERE!  Very cool card to add.
  • At first I was hesitant about taking some of those Lions, but now that I have them they inspired me to scan a couple other cards and post my growing Lions PC.  That, in turn, will likely get me to scan my few quality Red Wings cards soon, as well.
  • This trade was more than a year in the making, but was totally worth it--and you haven't even seen the best stuff yet, which will be on TMM, hopefully this week.
Thanks again, Mike, for being the best trader I know--no offense to any of the other great trade partners I've had, but nobody so far has matched the sheer volume and quality of Mike's trade packages, though I'd certainly be more than pleased if they did!--and I hope we can do another one of these soon, especially if I dig out still more of your favorite teams to get rid of unwanted stuff here.  And once again, welcome back!

Happy David Harris-ment awareness day, plus a contest plug

Contest plug:

In lighter news that doesn't involve the Tigers repeating their mistakes Groundhog Day style (at least he gets it in the end), Sam over at the Daily Dimwit is having a contest, the type that's ridiculously easy to join.  I've kind of been out of the contest game for a while due to disinterest and laziness, but I liked the combination of easiness and prize offerings so I'm in on this one, even if almost literally every other blogger I follow seems to be as well.  The prizes:
Be one of the lucky randomized five and get your choice.  Just hop over to the post, drop your name in the hat and pimp the contest like you see here for a couple free, easy entries.  Come on, just do it, Sam needs all the good news he can get now that he's an Alabama Mwa-own.  Hell, by the time the contest ends he may not even be able to read.
Sam, is that you?
Thumbs up for a cool contest, so get in now!

One other quick thing--Google+ invites:

I'd love to see more of you in my Bloggers circle on Google+, so for those interested, please feel free to swipe an invite from me here.  The link to my profile is in the upper-right part of this here blog.

David Harris all day:

Another day, another package of Wolverines from Blowout.  I scored a really nice deal on six cards of three different players, including a couple very low numbers.  The deal actually came about because someone noticed me working on a (failed) deal for some Wolverines and decided he wanted to get rid of some of his.  Voila:

Anthony Thomas 2002 Playoff Honors Honorable Signatures:  Boy does A-Train have a sweet-looking signature.  In some cases I even think it looks better on a sticker because it pops more.  Thomas #11 in my PC is only my third autograph of him, actually

Here comes a few David Harris hits:
2007 Prestige Draft Picks Rights auto/RC:  I don't really like the ugly "Draft Picks Rights" logo hovering in the upper-right corner, but the rest of the card looks pretty great--the Refractory background is pretty sweet, and this is a great shot of Harris looking mean during his Michigan days.  #d 066/150.

2007 Topps Co-Signers dual auto (with Brad Kassell):  I don't usually jump at multi-player autos that include non-Michigan players, but I thought this was a reasonable inclusion in the deal, and at least they're both on the same team.  This goes well with my other Co-Signers sigs.

2007 Topps Performance Breakout Gold auto:  This was the highlight of the package for me simply because it's #d 5/5, see?:
I actually already had the non-numbered version of this, so with this guy and the next one, I'm actually a good part of the way towards having all of Harris' hits from this set.

2007 Topps Performance Rookie Autographs Silver auto/RC:  This goes well with my other versions of Harris from the set.  Also a highlight of the deal due to being #d out of 25:
Those four Harrises put me up to 14 hits, 100% of which are autographs.  Not bad for a guy that just got PAID.

Jason Avant 2006 SP Authentic SP Authentics auto:  It probably hasn't been that long since I picked up an Avant autograph, but I'm still always happy to get one, especially one that's on-card with as nice of a design as this one is.  At 15 excellent cards including 13 autographs, Avant is clearly one of my better player collections.

As usual I'm very satisfied with a Wolverine-filled deal from Blowout.  The PC now stands at 307 hits, 213 of which are autographed.  Hopefully more will be on the way soon!
