9/5/2015 card show report: Grandyman and the Mad Dog

I don't have a whole lot to show off from last Saturday's monthly card show--just six cards split down the middle between this here blog and TMM, but what I do have is 100% relevant to baseball season!

This time I made just two purchases--one for $5 and another that set me back $50--and as usual most of my money went towards trade bait for the many folks to whom I owe cards!  The $50 purchase in particular was a great source for good stuff both for me and others because I got a lot of heavily discounted stuff by buying multiples.  The following three cards came from that purchase and were essentially $4 each:
Curtis Granderson 2012 Topps Triple Threads Relics Emerald 9x jersey (#TTR152) (#13/18)
Since Brad from Brad's Blog came out of nowhere and sent me an A&G Wood Mini of Grandy as a Yankee back in July I've lifted my moratorium on collecting his non-Tigers cards.  That made this fun Triple Threads relic an easy pickup.  I suppose it's possible the lower price was due to the minor damage to the paper that's part of the border of the "R" but it's not like I especially care.  This is a cool nickname card of one of my favorite PC guys and it comes with pinstripes, so that's a plus.  I'll have to see what other interesting Grandersons I can turn up regardless of which team he's pictured with.

Greg Maddux 2012 Prime Cuts Retired Jersey Numbers jersey (#15/31)
Greg Maddux 2015 Elite Throwback Threads jersey
I was a bit surprised to find this pair of Panini-branded Maddux jerseys in that very same box.  Granted, he's appeared on a good number of relics and these suffer from the stigma of being logo-less, but I mean come on, the top card is numbered to 31!  And the Elite card clearly depicts him with the Cubs with the only blemish being the missing "C" on his hat.  Mad Dog is a HOFer and one of the best pitchers my generation got to see, so I'll throw down $8 for this pair any day!

Please don't forget to check out my post on TMM this evening to see the rest of my pickups, including a low-numbered Barry Larkin!

  1. Anything Triple Threads for $4 is a good deal. Nice to see Granderson have a bit of a rebound season. Sweet looking card!
