Big fun announcement: streaming a pack break with a contest!

So here's a few things I haven't done in a while that I'll be doing all at once:  busting retail packs, streaming, and hosting a contest.  Here's what's up:  I've been following a thread on Blowout about a deal Wal-Mart's offering online only, 50 packs for $20 (free shipping if you spend $35+).  That's $0.40 per pack, friends.
The packs you get seem to vary a ton, with some people complaining about low-end, junky stuff, and others getting some nicer more recent packs.  There seems to be a mix of dollar store packs (what's up, Doug?), repacks/blisters, and other random stuff.

Check out that thread to get a better idea of what's coming in these, though I swiped an image for reference:
So what does that have to do with me and you, readers?  Well, I'll tell you!

I've decided to try a few of these for myself, so I ordered four (200 packs worth!) and will be streaming ripping them live when they arrive next week (due on Tuesday, for now).  I'm sure most of what comes out of them will be heading to trade packages, so that should be exciting for many of you aside from just seeing someone open a ton of packs.

BUT, even more exciting...
I bought a FIFTH package of these just for contest purposes, and I'll be straight up giving it away during the stream!  All US residents who are following this here blog will be eligible and I'll random it off at the end of the stream to one lucky viewer.

Sound good?  I hope so!  I'm tentatively planning on doing this at 9pm this coming Tuesday and will try to lock that down when I can confirm.  In the meantime, will interested folks please drop a comment letting me know if that date/time works?  I'd love to get as many people involved as possible.  Tell me what you think!

  1. I would be interested even though we have not traded before. Anytime would work for me. I would be intersted in any Indians cards you pull.

    1. Looking forward to it, Brad! I do that all the time and then worry the recipient won't know who the package is from.

  5. I've been debating on picking up one of these just for therapy reasons. Have fun busting all of those packs. I'll try and make it to the stream party.

    1. I debated it for a while, too, but based on the Blowout thread it just looked like too much fun for the price. So I think a little pack therapy might be nice for you too.

    2. I bought two. It's $43.53 that might go down the drain... but at least it'll fill some care packages while take my mind off of things.

    3. I think you'll at least have 100 packs worth of fun! Good luck.

  6. Out of curiosity, is there a football version of this?

    1. I just took a look and so far don't see a football version from the people that make this one (just a bunch of "vintage"--e.g. garbage junk wax--packs from a different seller). FWIW they do make a hockey version, so maybe that's coming.

  8. Oh good - a video to get an idea about what one REALLY gets from there. I have watch a few big YT channels open packages like these, but I cannot trust those as I think the seller knows who they are, so they stack the box. But what does the average Jow get?

    1. You're still alive! Good to hear from you, Jeff. I think the Blowout thread I linked is a pretty good indicator of the wide variety of packs you can get, and that's what I'm going off of, because I'm' sure you're right that the YouTube folks probably get the Beckett treatment and get the most loaded stuff. I'm expecting some junk wax and quite a few dollar store packs, but for $20 per, if I get a few fun things to open I'll be happy, and it'll pretty much all be trade bait anyway.

  9. Dang dude, this is awesome! I have seen mixed reviews on these as well and can't wait to see what you get. Where you streaming it at Facebook? You know, that I don't even know if/when I am available on Tuesday but I hope you post it after so I can see all the hits.

    1. I'll probably try going live on YouTube, but we'll see. I hope you'll be available for the giveaway, but I'm sure I'll do a summary post for the better stuff anyway.

  10. Sounds like a fun, and very generous, contest! The time is a little late for me, but I'll try to watch for a little while at least. Roy (Nothing If Not Random) got one of these a couple of months ago and seemed to do pretty well with it, hopefully yours will be as good.

    1. Thanks for pointing Roy's post(s) out to me, Jon, I'm gonna check them out (starting with http://nothingifnotrandom.blogspot.com/2019/01/wal-mart-mlb-baseballs-ultimate.html for those interested). I hope you can make it for a bit!

  11. This sound really intriguing (and fun too). My computer won't let me watch videos without freezing or suddenly turning off but I think I can at least watch on my phone. I'm looking forward to this.

  12. I opened a couple of these and enjoyed it. I never got around to blogging about it, but I had fun opening the packs. And it sounds like you're expectations are in check, which is smart.
